MR PETER B MYLES

Born in Ndola, Zambia, Peter Myles has traveled, lived and worked in many different parts of Africa. He has worked as a corporate marketing executive in four major industries namely agriculture, textiles, sportswear and pharmaceuticals. In 1977 he received the Raymond Ackerman Award from the Institute of Marketing Management for his thesis on free enterprise. He matriculated at Rondebosch Boys' High School in the Western Cape Province of South Africa where he was Head Prefect in 1959 and represented the school at rugby, athletics and swimming. He has lived and worked in Port Elizabeth since 1982 and is married to Bronwen. They have three adult children and five grandchildren.

His interesting and varied career has exposed him to a range of diversified work experiences that has included managing cattle ranches, breaking and training horses, management consultant to corporate business and business consultant to small industry. His leisure activities have included sports administration, coaching track and field athletes, scuba diving and body surfing. He loves nature and outdoor activities.

Peter entered the travel and tourism industry for the first time in 1988 as the Director of Tourism Port Elizabeth (tourism marketing) and then in 1993 as Regional Director for the South African Tourism Board in the Eastern Cape (tourism development). In 1995 he decided to establish his own business as a tourism specialist and developed the Tourism 2000 Network of associated specialists in Southern Africa and other parts of the world to focus on major tourism development projects.

Peter has written articles for tourism journals, prepared strategic tourism plans, designed appropriate organisational structures, facilitated tourism enterprise development, conducted tourism research in South Africa, Zambia, USA, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the Caribbean, compiled visitor statistics, presented capacity building training courses, facilitated tourism workshops and prepared project proposals.

He has served on a number of statutory boards and professional associations. These include: Tourism Business Council of South Africa, Eastern Cape Gambling & Betting Board, Eastern Cape Tourism Board, and Eastern Cape Bioregional Implementation Committee. In 1992 he received the Communicator of the Year Award from the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa, the SA Tourism Award in 1990 for uplifting tourism in the Eastern Cape Province, and the Tourism Liaison Council Award in 1989 for the marketing of Port Elizabeth as a tourist destination. In 2003 he was honoured by the former Premier of the Eastern Cape and the Eastern Cape Tourism Board, and was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for his contribution to the development of the first Eastern Cape Tourism Master Plan.

Peter has a Masters Degree in Tourism Development and Management. He is a PhD candidate currently busy with a research project on coastal and marine tourism. He recently retired as Director of the Tourism Research Unit (TRU) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to focus on local, national and international tourism projects. As Director of the TRU he supervised honours, masters and doctoral studies in tourism while coordinating a B Com Honours (Tourism) programme at the university. He is registered with the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and the European Commission (EC) as a tourism specialist. He is also registered with the EU-SADC Investment Promotion Programme (ESIPP). He currently works as a tourism specialist with a number of associated project teams.

 
 
 
 
DR ANTHONY ALBERS

Anthony Albers was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He completed his formal education at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where he obtained a PhD degree in Physics in 1994.

Anthony is the CEO and founder of Kyle Business Projects, which undertakes a range of tourism development and strategy projects in South Africa.
